Borst soars to state high jump crown

Royce Borst capped a memorable high school career with a sensational effort at the 2026 ASAA Division II State Track and Field Meet. The Skagway senior posted a gold-medal finish in the small-school high jump competition. The meet was held May 29-30 at Dimond High School in Anchorage.
Borst, who committed to play basketball at Centralia College in Washington, claimed first in the Division II ranks with a leap of 6-foot, 2-inches.
Seward’s Luke Elhard and Olin Liljemark gave the Seahawks 14 points in the event with a 2-3 finish. Elhard also reached 6-2, but finished second in the final standings due to the number of misses. Liljemark was third at 5-10.
Borst also did well in the 200-meter dash, placing 12th overall in the prelims at 24.65 seconds.
Brenden Moncibaiz and Logan Ward also did well for the Wolves’ Moncibaiz was 10th in the  prelims of the 110-meter hurdles. Ward was 15th in the triple jump prelims with a leap of 35-2. He also took sixth in the discus with a throw of 114-3.
Mina Yee was the lone Skagway girl making the trip to the state meet. She was 13th in the girls’ triple jump with a mark of 26-8 1/2.
