More events on arts horizon
Skagway Arts Council has scheduled the following two events in February and March in support of their mission of fostering a musical community.
Beginning in February, Juan Castaneda-Gonzales will be teaching ukulele lessons at the Skagway School on the stage. The lessons will happen each Monday night at 7 p.m. for the entire month of February (2/3, 2/10, 2/17, and 2/24) and will cost $5 ($3 for SAC members) for each evening that you attend. Bring your own ukulele, or if you don't have one call Dottie at 612-0456 to arrange to borrow one. You will learn basic strumming techniques, chords, and at least two songs.
Four more jam nights have been scheduled at the Elks on January 31 (NEW), February 14, February 28 and March 28. The sessions will begin around 8 p.m. following the burger feed. Don't miss these opportunities for all levels of musicians to circle up and share their musical talents. Bring voice, instrument, and 1-3 songs you'd like to learn or share. Playing in a group is a fun and relaxing way to learn basic chord progressions and rhythm as well as learn to sing and play at the same time. There is no fee to attend.
Watch for details in future newspapers and on bulletin boards around town for the following events the Arts Council will be presenting in the near future:
• ANNUAL WINTER WEEKEND FILM FESTIVAL, Friday, February 21 through Sunday, February 23, 2014.
• THE RUTH MOODY BAND, Sunday, March 9, 2014. Ruth is a two-time Juno Award winner and a founding member of The Wailin' Jennies. – SAC
