HIGH TURNOUT, LATE NIGHT - Above, ballot counters Will Godbey, Barb Brodersen, Susan Smith and Don Hather hand count one of the 538 ballots on election eve. The total represented 58% of the city's 922 registered voters, and was the highest vote tally in a city election in at least 10 years. The previous high was 471 in October 1997, according to the city clerk's office.
