Skagway hosts 2013 SE Artfest, time to start planning
With the support of the Skagway Arts Council, the Skagway School will be hosting the 2013 SE Alaska Regional Artfest next spring, a student activity sanctioned by Region 5 of the Alaska School Activities Association. The annual event could bring over 100 students and chaperones from towns throughout SE Alaska and will run from Tuesday through Friday, April 9-12, 2013.
The event will offer a variety of hands-on, project-oriented, art workshops (about 20) to local and visiting students, as well as local adults as space permits. The event ends Friday evening with a professionally staged public exhibit of 1) all of the artwork produced by students and adults during the workshops; 2) student art completed previously and brought to Artfest for a juried exhibit; and 3) a silent auction of donated art to help fund Artfest.
This represents an excellent opportunity for artistic exposure to Skagway students and adults, as well as building relationships with our neighboring southeast communities. Volunteers will begin contacting residents this week looking for anyone interested in helping make this event a success in any of the following ways: teach a workshop; provide or organize housing, transportation, workshop locations, or meal arrangements; design an event logo for t-shirts; plan the Friday Art Show; order art supplies, setup and/or cleanup duty.
Anyone interested in being involved, contact Dottie at 983-2248 or Cindy at 983-2960. – SAC
