Joan Lane
July 1921 – August 2010

Joan Mary (Hannan) (Hutchins) Lane was born on the 4th of July, 1921, in Skagway, Alaska. Her father, Ken, was officiating at a tennis match when given the news of her birth. She loved her life in Skagway, hiking, skiing, ice-skating and playing the piano with friends gathered around. She attended college in Cheney, Wash. and became a schoolteacher. She taught in Seattle and married Berk Hutchins. They raised three children in Seattle. In the 1960s, she married Cy Lane and moved to Longview. She taught school and retired in the 1970s to the Oregon Coast which she and Cy enjoyed for 35 years. She loved her family, teaching, music, reading and her enthusiastic, fun loving personality is her legacy.  In January, she relocated to Seattle, where she died on August  9, 2010. She was preceded in death by her mother, Muriel, and father, husband and brother, John. She is survived by two daughters, her son and four grandchildren. – Submitted by the family
