In a Florida article mailed to a Newsie, someone mentioned that they were going to Alaska. The writer then commented, “It’s so far up there, it’s like a different country. I’m surprised they speak English.”

A woman coming off one of this year’s first cruise ships at the Broadway Dock looked over the railing at the water spilling into the bay from the Pullen Creek salmon ladder, 20 feet below, and said, “I wonder if I can pan for gold in there.”
