Panthers’ home finale this weekend
Teams getting hot for tourney

The Skagway High basketball teams are peaking at just the right time.
Despite a wave of sickness that left them with limited numbers of active players, both teams have been racking up big wins over the past two weeks.
The girls remained undefeated in league play, easily dispatching Thorne Bay and Angoon. And the boys, after losing on a last-second shot in its opener against Thorne Bay, have reeled off five straight wins, including four on the road at Angoon and Kake last week.
They will have a huge series this weekend at home against Yakutat, and the community is urged to show up and give them a boost. If you wear blue and gold, you get in free to the games, which begin at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday night.
Saturday will be Senior Night and the last time to see John Doland, Jesse Ellis, Devin Fairbanks, Bryce Jones, JR Madden, Sam Madden, Kaylie O’Daniel, and Kairlyn Surdyk at home in their varsity uniforms.
Then it’s off to the Region V 2A Tourney in Ketchikan March 2-5, with the girls aiming to repeat as champions and the boys hoping to improve on last year’s third place finish. The top two teams in the region advance to State in Anchorage March 14-16.
Tourney games will be on KHNS.
