Jeffry Stewart Adams

October 1947 - February 2012

 Jeffry Stewart Adams of Skagway passed away after a short illness on Feb. 9 2012. He was 64 years old.
Adams was born Oct. 27, 1947 in Spokane, Wash to Gail and Lucille Adams. He was known for his sense of community, both in Woodland, Wash. , where he resided for many years, and also in Skagway, where he lived for the last six years.
Adams worked for Alaska Travel Adventures at Liarsville Gold Camp and was active in the Eagles.
A memorial service for Adams was held on Feb. 18 at Skagway Eagles Aerie No. 25.
A lover of the outdoors and hunting and fishing, Adams enjoyed his retirement years living in Alaska. He enjoyed shrimping with his friend Howard Mallory before his health declined.
He also loved his years in Woodland, where he became a police officer in 1972, a career that spanned 27 years.
Spending time with his grandchildren was Adams’ greatest passion. He is survived by his brother Gail, sons Sean and Kris, daughter Nikki, and granddaughters Jordan and Scout.
`A Celebration of Life will be held on Sat. Feb. 25 at noon at the Gus Forbes VFW No. 1927 in Woodland. Friends and family are welcome to attend. – Submitted by the family

Kevin 'Bear' O’Brien

December 1953 – January 2012

Former Skagway resident Kevin “Bear” O’Brien died Jan. 21 of COPD complications at Desert View Hospital in Pahrump, Nevada.
He was born on Dec. 19, 1953 in New York. He came to Pahrump in 1982, having moved from Skagway and could he ever tell tales of his escapades while he was there.
He worked for the railroad, mostly loading ships. He tended bar in Pahrump at the old Cotton Pickin’ Saloon and then went to work for Oscar Pest Control in 1985. He stayed with the company until his passing.
He made friends all across Pahrump and would be the first to volunteer help for anyone.
Bear is survived by his wife of 27 years, Peggy; mother Catherine; and brothers Tom, Keith and Dennis, all of Long Island, NY. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas O’Brien.
A memorial service in honor of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 12 at Moose Lodge No. 808, located at Second and Center in Pahrump.
