December 5
Officer was notified of possible theft of heating fuel. Still under investigation.

December 6
Owner reported that his dog was missing. Owner later called SPD that dog was found.

December 7
NPS ranger called SPD about a vehicle stuck on the West Creek Road. Officer responded and gave a courtesy ride to the driver of vehicle. A tow company was called.

December 8
Fire personnel responded to an audible fire alarm downtown. It was a false alarm due to equipment malfunctions.

December 9
Officer reporting that there were telephone booths knocked over by the wind down at the RR dock. Owner notified.

December 10
Officer responded to a noise complaint – someone yelling loudly. Officer unable to locate individual.

December 12
DOT reported that there is a vehicle on the cliff side of the Dyea Road between the AB Trail and gun range. Officer responded and investigating.

December 13
Owner was notified that his boat/trailer was parked on municipal street for over 24 hours – owner moved boat/trailer.

December 14
Report of a dead seal on west side of Ore Dock. NOAA was contacted.

December 15
Fire personnel responded to a chimney fire.

December 16
Officers responding to a silent distress/burglary alarm at the U.S. Post Office – perimeter check was needed. Officers checked building and surrounding area and that the perimeter is secured. US Post Office Dispatcher notified and acknowledged and will contact Federal postal Inspector.

December 17
Fire personnel were notified that four EWS fire alarms were triggered – it was determined that all four were due to phone line issues.

December 18
Fire personnel responded to an EWS fire alarm to a downtown building. It was determined to be false due to water damaging one of the sensors. – SPD

Officer Rick Ackerman (right) is presented an award from Police Chief Ray Leggett in appreciation for his volunteer effort restarting the DARE program at the Skagway School. The award was presented by the Police Department at the DARE graduation on April 3, 2009. The program was restarted this year thanks to municipal funding and volunteer donations. Ackerman received a round of applause from both students and parents as Leggett expressed his appreciation and said for the program to be a success it needed that “one person” willing to dedicate their time to the cause. Left, students watch short movies they made about the bad things that can happen to those who use and abuse drugs. and alcohol. Then they hit the cupcakes below.
